Effective SEO With Scribe – WP Plugin

I have been writing over at my blog about writing compelling copy for the web. Now a day’s many people are using WordPress as their blogging platform or Content Management System, because WordPress provides flexibility, easy customization, and tailored Search Engine Optimisation.

Most people who use WordPress are aware of basic search engine optimisation (SEO) and will be aware of some of the popular Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) plugins available to them.  However for high search engine placement they need to adopt more advanced techniques (Keyword Analysis, Split Testing, compelling Copy etc) . As we all know Copy is king when it comes to Googles ‘Bots’.  If you want to get Good WordPress SEO with minimal work, here is a cool and very popular wordpress plugin,  Scribe.

Scribe for WordPress

The Scribe WordPress version works via a plugin combined with an application programming interface (an API, which is a fancy way of saying one piece of software talks to another). The Scribe API key you’ll receive when you join allows you to tap into the content optimization service right from your WordPress interface.

Scribe works with WordPress if you’re able to fill in a custom title tag and meta description for the post or page. While Scribe was originally developed for the Thesis Theme for WordPress, it also works with the free All in One SEO plugin, the hybrid theme, and the headway theme.

We’ve got other platforms coming soon, including a standalone web version, and you’ll have access to all of those additional Scribe platforms at no extra charge when you sign up for our great introductory offer.

You’ll have step-by-step instructions on how to install the plugin and activate the service when you sign up, so lets jump straight into using Scribe.

First of all, keep in mind that what’s innovative about Scribe is in the way it differs from typical SEO tools. Instead of asking you for a keyword phrase and then guiding you to construct content around it, Scribe:

  • Analyzes what you’ve already written, preserving your natural flow.
  • Tells you what search engines will think you’re writing about.
  • Tells you what changes to make to better reflect the language searchers are using.
  • Helps you tweak remaining content elements based on SEO best practices.

Let’s take a look at a Scribe-optimized web page to see how that process works.

Scribe SEO

This is the WordPress interface for the Copywriting 101 tutorial, a content landing page optimized for the keyword “copywriting.” With Scribe, you have two options – “analyze” the page for keyword prominence and SEO on-page best practices, and “review” so you can see the criteria you’ve already satisfied after the initial evaluation.

Let’s hit review and see what we’ve got.

After hitting the review button, a nifty lightbox shows up to reveal how you’ve done so far on all the on-page criteria that Scribe evaluates. We’ll talk about those elements more in a second, but first I want to direct your attention to the tabs at the top of the evaluation lightbox.

It’s here that we’ll find out if the language we’re using matches up with the language searchers are using. So let’s dig in. The first tab is the SEO score, which evaluates those on-page SEO elements we’ll get to.

Scribe SEO

Let’s look at the second tab, which goes into keyword analysis. This is the aspect of Scribe that’s pure gold. Here you confirm that what you’re talking about is what people are searching for (and how much).

Scribe SEO

If you’ve missed the mark, all is not lost, as we see in this next tab. Scribe gives specific suggestions on how to re-focus (or find) primary keywords.

Scribe SEO

Google takes into account not only keyword phrases that people search for, but also (to a lesser degree) synonyms for those phrases as well. Scribe gives you synonym information, plus instant tag and category references – effortlessly.

SEO copywriting goes beyond ranking. It’s also about presenting your search engine result in the best light to get the click. The SERP tab shows you how your result will look, so you don’t have to guess.

Scribe SEO

Finally, Scribe gives you a full and constantly updated guide to SEO best practices. There’s also a term glossary in case some terminology doesn’t make sense. You don’t need to be an SEO insider to get the most out of Scribe.

Scribe SEO

The reason Scribe works with Thesis, Hybrid, Headway and the free All-in-One SEO plugin is because it needs the fields for custom title tags and meta descriptions that those solutions provide.

Scribe SEO

The Custom Title Tag field allows you to serve a different title to search engines than what appears on the page. So you can keep your catchy title and still create a search optimized alternative. Or, if your on-page headline has good keyword placement, you can use it twice – but keep in mind you must actually fill in the title tag field for Scribe to evaluate your content.

Fill in the Meta Description field too. This snippet of copy is what’s served beneath your title in search engine results. It should reinforce that your content is about what the searcher is looking for, and support the promise made with the title.

Go ahead and fill in these two fields and hit the Analyze button. Don’t worry… if you’re off target with your title or meta description, Scribe will tell you.

Now, here are the results of our initial Scribe evaluation:

Scribe SEO

Looks like we’re doing pretty well on SEO best practices for title, meta description, and body content (all of which factors in keyword frequency so you don’t have to). If your score is lower, just follow Scribe’s guidance to tweak the elements highlighted in yellow, then evaluate the content once more to see how much your score has increased.

Now let’s look at our primary keywords, because best practices don’t mean much if we miss the right language.

Scribe SEO

We’ve got “landing page” as a primary keyword, which is what we’re after, and “makeover,” which we’re not interested in. To shift the focus of your keyword prominence, go to the “Change Keywords” tab so Scribe can guide you on how to do that.

But of course, if you’re really trying to rank for “landing pages” you’re better off using Scribe to create a content landing page like this:

Scribe SEO

There you have it… it really is that simple with Scribe And believe it or not, it’s actually fun.

You’ve got to try it for yourself to believe it. Why not go ahead and do that?

One more thing to add.  It is amazing…. This post has an SEO score of 85% with primary keywords being “Plugin, SEO, Scribe & WordPress”.  This has to be one of the most useful plugins I have ever come across.
